Life, thoughts and updates

I try to keep this blog as free from personal ramblings as possible. But every once in a while, I think it’s good to write a little bit about what’s going on in my life.

I have a couple of exciting ‘photo-related’ things in sight. I will be showing in two group shows, both in January! One of them is being independently organized by the artists, and will happen at Blush. The other one was an offer that came out of nowhere by the lovely organizers at the Orlando Public Library! I will post more info on this as I get it.

I will also be attending Art Basel and Art Miami this week, it’s my first time at those events and I’m excited to see all the great art! If you are going as well, hit me up!

Besides that, I’ve been doing a surprisingly small amount of personal photography. My dolls have been enjoying a well-deserved break, and I’m concentrating on other projects. I started writing, a lot, which I hadn’t done since High School. It’s a funny transition, because back then, I wrote in Portuguese. Now, I write in English. It’s not that I am suddenly unable to write in my own native language; but after living here for six years, I’ve learned to think, dream, and breathe in English. Don’t worry though, I still at least read a lot in Portuguese. And who knows, I may at some point translate these writings on my own.

On that note, I got inspired and bought this (on credit! Yay.):

It’s a Dell Inspiron Mini 9. I wanted something small and light for me to carry around, so whenever I get that urge to write stuff down, it will be there. I mainly had my upcoming trips in mind (Miami this week, Brazil the next!). It doesn’t even have Windows, it’s Linux. I plan on downloading some sort of free writing software, and that’s it.

Speaking of computers, my goal for next year is to get a Macbook Pro. I’m ready to switch to Apple. I don’t have many complaints about my current computer (A HP Pavillion Entertainment Notebook), but after working with a Mac, I can see why people (specially visual artists) prefer it over PCs. We’ll see.

Now for the useless stuff.

I’ve been playing SO MUCH Animal Crossing: City Folk! I’ve been a fan since the Game Cube version, and now this has me hooked. If you want to play with me, leave a comment with your info. Here is mine:

So fun! Anyway, for those who were wondering, our Thanksgiving feast was a success! I now know I can cook a turkey.

I will end this post with a random music recommendation. I usually keep this whole music stuff to myself, because people can get so caught up in what they listen to and how new and obscure it is and how it may or may not define who they are… and it annoys me to no end! But anyway, I’ve been listening to a lot of Agua de Annique, led by The Gathering’s former vocalist, Anneke van Giersbergen. She has brought a lot of the more progressive, ambient sound into this new project, and I really like it. She is no doubt one of the most amazing singers out there, and want to be just like her when I grow up. Ok, just kidding about that last bit (maybe). Check out some of their music on myspace! And while you’re at it, check out The Gathering’s page too.

Time for me to sleep and stop blabbing. Good night!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I’ve been cursed with some sort of stomach virus, and have been sick since yesterday. Please keep me in your thoughts, so I can enjoy some thanksgiving FOOD tomorrow! By the way, did I mention I am COOKING it? Stuffing, green beans, apple pie, and yes, 10lb Turkey! Wish me luck, I will need it!

Anyway.

I was mentioned on The Daily F’log, Fotolog’s blog. They briefly talk about my Blurb Book!

Check out their Book Makers post!

I plan on making another book, containing only images from my series, Pattern, sometime soon!

My dad has been here for a week visiting from Brazil, where my family lives. They also have a house in Kissimmee, FL. Today he and I drove to the lake near downtown Kissimmee, to walk around and take some pictures! It was a lovely day out. I love Florida’s ‘winter’. :)

Group Exhibit: Third Thursdays at ROHO! Picture post!

Last night was wonderful! So much art all around CityArts Factory, and so many people mingling!

Thank you to everyone who showed up for support! I had a great time, and the show looked great.

I need to thank Maria and Nick from ROHO, as well as all their staff,  for being so wonderful and allowing me to display my work there. It will be up until around the 13th, so if you’re in the area, definitely stop by to look at all the art and have some of their delicious coffee and pastries!
I also had the chance to meet two of the other artists showing, Julio Cesar and Plinio Marcos Pinto. Their work is wonderful and it was great to be able o see it in person.

Here are some photos from the Opening Reception:

Eye Candy

I want to get in the habit of regularly posting some of my everyday photography. This is what I do for fun, no huge concept or production behind anything; the simple act of taking photographs for the sake of creating beautiful images.

Enjoy!

It’s been a good online week for me!

I was featured in a super cool and cute shopping blog.

Check out Misosouper!

Here is a quote from the post

While you might not be able to catch her work in person, you can collect photos of her dolls–rambunctious hair and eerie optics abound–in her amazing Blurb collection.

Stop by and leave some comments!

BONECAS exhibit- picture post!

As you all know I had my first SOLO photography exhbit on the 17th, at the Orange Studio, downtown Orlando.
We had an AMAZING turnout. I was so so happy, lots of people came, and everything worked out perfectly! I was extra happy that my mom was there, it was her first time seeing my work up like that.
This wouldn’t have been possible without Julio Lima, from Say it Loud!, who offered me the space and helped with the promotion of the event. I’m also very grateful to the wonderful people from the Daily Grind Unwind, who came out to the show with their coffee and delicious pastries.
A few other ‘thank yous’ go to Justin Delabar for making the flyers, Patricia Lois who helped me install the photos, Amy White for performing during the show and Josh Freeman for some of the photos you will see in this post. :)

Let me start with a short video… excuse the crappy quality!

Alright. Here we go!

Orlando Sentinel

Filed under: publications — Tags: — belle @ 6:03 pm

I found this small but cool review of my work at the Orlando Sentinel website.

Local artist and UCF grad Isabelle Ribeiro will present her first solo exhibit tonight, featuring her photographs of dolls. Now, there are lots of “look-I-can-point-&-shoot” photographers around — if I have to view another side-lit breast, or sunset, or Venetian canal, I think I’ll claw my eyes out — and most are not anything resembling “art,” contrary to what the point-&-shooter thinks of his or her “work.” So, I thought I’d better preview these photos at isabelle-ribeiro .com/dolls — I found them to be like someone’s very deep, internal emotions being made visible for our contemplation. Which, to me, is very cool art. (…)

How cool is that?

In fact, I am looking for a copy of the Orlando Sentinel from October 17th. If anyone has it and wants to donate it, let me know. =\

P.S.: The exhibition went WONDERFUL. I will make a decent post about it as soon as I get some more photos. :)
